Preamble
This regulation applies to the AIR PPM Hackathon, hereinafter called the Hackathon.
These regulations define the key rules for the Hackathon course. At the same time, detailed information regarding the event's organization will be communicated to participants through announcements and ongoing updates.
Participation rules
Teams consisting of 2 to 5 members may participate in the Hackathon.
Participation in the Hackathon can be either on-site or online.
For organizational reasons, a maximum of 25 teams can participate in the on-site Hackathon. If the maximum number of teams is exceeded, the accepted teams will be determined based on the order of application submission, with on-site teams given priority.
Team members may include:
High-school students
Undergraduate and graduate students, as well as Ph.D. candidates
Early-career researchers (up to 5 years after obtaining a Ph.D.)
The application to participate in the Hackathon must be submitted to the Hackathon Organizing Committee via the application form.
One person designated by the team to represent it at the Hackathon, hereinafter referred to as the Team Captain, is responsible for applying.
The application must be submitted using the Application Form.
Applications will be reviewed by the Hackathon Organizing Committee, which will provide feedback on the decision to the applicant.
Hackathon procedure
At the announcement of the Hackathon, the available data structures and sample datasets will be published on the Hackathon website.
Until April 5th, 2025, registered teams may submit suggestions for data modifications, such as expanding the dataset with new data sources.
The Hackathon Organizing Committee may review these suggestions and modify the data structures and datasets accordingly.
Starting from 25th March 2025, the lectures on time series analysis and processing and air pollution data will be periodically published on the Hackathon website and its social media channels.
On April 22nd, 2025, the official start of the Hackathon, the particular problem to be solved will be announced.
During the Hackathon, teams can work on their solutions and test iterative versions of their implementations using the Evaluation System on the previously announced datasets.
The files constituting the solution package must be submitted via the Submission Form by the deadline of July 31st, 2025, at 23:59 pm (Japan Standard Time, UTC+9).
The maximum execution time of the program (on the provided dataset) resulting from the team's work must not exceed 5 minutes on a reference computer specification: single-core CPU, 2GB RAM, and 1GB storage.
The Hackathon Organizing Committee will announce the results on August 15th, 2025, by 11 am (Japan Standard Time, UTC+9) in the form of an announcement at the closing of the Hackathon and on the event's website.
